DHL expands global express connections

Oct 21, 2010 Logistics

DHL has strengthened its global cross-border express business with the introduction of three new air express routes between Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

The routes are being served by AeroLogic, the joint venture cargo airline of DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo.

Ken Allen, chief executive officer of DHL Express, said the latest network enhancements contribute to further building DHL’s leading position.

"There is a continuously high demand for express transport of goods and documents between key markets in Europe, Asia Pacific and EEMEA, and our new routes will provide customers with more flexibility and add capacity where it is needed," Allen said.

Following the delivery of AeroLogic’s seventh Boeing 777F aircraft, DHL Express launched an early bird connection from Hong Kong to Leipzig on Monday last week.

The new addition enables the company to offer westbound DHL Express Worldwide next-day delivery service from one of the most important markets in the world.

The company also added the new Bangkok stop to its Leipzig-Singapore-New Delhi route to improve speed of delivery to the important Southeast Asian market.

The new Brussels to Bahrain route, which went live on October 12, adds to the existing Leipzig to Bahrain connection and enhances DHL Express’ ability to serve a high-demand trade lane that connects European and American markets to the Middle East.

In line with DHL Express’ strategy to sharpen its focus on the international cross-border express business, the company’s recent investments have targeted network enhancement projects on key trade lanes.

Trade data for the first half of 2010 confirms a high demand for fast-to-market international transport of goods on these lanes and not surprisingly, DHL Express’ international shipment volumes have continued to grow significantly in the first half of 2010 in a year-on-year comparison.
