U-Con apply to feds for Los Angeles-Shanghai route

UNITED AIRLINES has filed an application with the US Department of Transportation for authority to begin daily service between the airline's Los Angeles hub and Shanghai from May 20.


Sister carrier, Continental Airlines, applied for authority to place its CO code on United operated flights between the two cities.


The proposed flights from Los Angeles would depart at 1333 hrs and arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 1755 hrs the next day. Service from Shanghai, beginning May 21 would depart at 1950 hrs and arrive in Los Angeles at 1647 hrs the same day.


United currently serves Shanghai daily from Chicago and San Francisco. Continental flies to Shanghai daily from New York/Newark.
