With an eye on the the commissioning of the prestigious International Container Transhipment Terminal at Vallarpadam by Kochi port, several logistics companies are gearing up to offer modern logistics services in the region, reported the Hindu.

The Kochi-based Unilog is one such company that has launched services to offer fast and secure services across Kerala and to other states in the south with its modern infrastructure and technology.

Mohammed Sabah, executive director, Unilog, pointed out that Kochi is poised to become an export-import hub for the southern states as the proposed ICTT at Vallarpadam is expected to handle around one million TEUs.

He said the company has set up a 100,000 sq ft warehousing facility, besides deploying a 50-strong fleet of high-security GPS-enabled containerised vehicles with real-time tracking.

The company also offers 24-hour express parcel delivery anywhere in Kerala.

Unilog has also launched 150 retail express stores in all the towns in the state, he added.

On their future plans, he said the company proposed to extend its services throughout the South by the month-end and would have a pan-India presence by 2012.
