A BOEING 747-400 freighter of Taiwan's China Airlines recently landed on south eastern China city Fuzhou's Changle Airport, marking the inauguration of the first cross strait all-cargo direct service for Fuzhou, Xinhua reported.
The service provides two flights a week on Wednesday and Saturday, using 747-400 freighter that can carry 120 tonnes, said China Airlines chairman Philip Wei. Cargo will mostly come from in and around Fuzhou. Transshipment from neighbouring Xiamen and Wenzhou and the central city of Nanchang also supply freight. After arrival on Taipei, 80 per cent of the cargo, will be transshipped to Europe or America.
Flights are scheduled to take off at 1710 hrs from Taipei's Taoyuan Airport, reaching Fuzhou at 1900 hrs, leaving Fuzhou at 2130 hrs, arriving at Taipei at 2320 hrs.
The maiden flight carried about 70 tonnes of electronic products, textiles and shoes.
Taiwan's Uni Air started the first cargo service from Taipei to Fuzhou in March by using the passenger aircraft belly. But as the capacity is limited, many of the shippers had to choose to transship in Guangzhou or Shanghai, entailing more time and cost.
From March to August, Fuzhou Airport recorded a total of 268 tonnes of Mainland-Taiwan direct shipping cargo.
