CARSTEN SPOHR has been named the new CEO of Lufthansa German Airlines, succeeding Christoph Franz and Karl Ulrich Garnadt has been appointed chairman and CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.
Deutsche Lufthansa AG deputy chairman Christoph Franz has been named the successor to Wolfgang Mayrhuber as chairman and CEO of the Lufthansa Group. The change at the helm of the group takes effect January 1.
Mr Spohr has also been made a member of the group's executive board. As head of Lufthansa German Airlines he shall also occupy the position of CEO and chairman of the Lufthansa German Airlines board.
His successor, Mr Garnadt, is responsible for hub management and passenger services on the Lufthansa German Airlines board.
Mr Mayrhuber, who spent 40 years at Lufthansa, with eight years as chairman and CEO of the group, said: "With Christoph Franz at the helm and his broad wealth of experience, foresight and determination to implement change, our company will continue to be able to react to future challenges with the necessary speed and flexibility."
As the future chairman and CEO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Mr Franz will be responsible for the Lufthansa Group and its five business segments - passenger airline group, logistics, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO); IT services and catering, with a total of over 116,000 employees worldwide.
Mr Spohr shall assume responsibility for Lufthansa German Airlines and its over 37,000 staff worldwide on the executive board of the Lufthansa Group.
