FedEx widens pick-up window for China coast to Europe

Sep 7, 2010 Logistics

GLOBAL delivery service FedEx Express has announced later pick ups for all FedEx low-value shipments bound for the Europe from Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Shaoxing.

Tuesdays through Fridays customers in "select areas of these five cities" have an additional two hours to prepare shipments, said a FedEx statement.

This service enhancement is a part of an ongoing focus by FedEx to give customers a competitive edge by strengthening connections between China and Europe. According to the Chinese General Administration of Customs, the country's exports to the EU hit US$236.2 billion last year, accounting for 20 per cent of China's total overseas shipments, said FedEx.

"The EU is China's biggest export market, with an average annual growth rate of 11.1 per cent over the past five years," said David Cunningham, president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. "The FedEx EuroOne network connects hundreds of European cities with a next-business-day service. This latest service enhancement reflects our commitment to enhance access to this important region for our customers in mainland China," he said.

FedEx has annual revenues of $35 billion and employs 280,000 providing delivery to and from 220 countries and territories.
