Pilots had smoke in UPS 747 cockpit before fatal Dubai crash

PILOTS aboard a UPS 747-400 that crashed shortly after take off from Dubai over the weekend faced radio problems and smoke in the cockpit as they struggled to maintain altitude before the crash, investigators have revealed.


The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, reported The Associated Press, presented preliminary findings on the crash of the United Parcel Service plane showed that the two crewmen, who were killed, were trying to return to the Dubai airport when the plane crashed.


A US National Transportation Safety Board team was to arrive to assist investigators. UPS has said the deceased crew members were Captain Doug Lampe of Louisville, Kentucky, 48, and First Officer Matthew Bell, 38, of Sanford, Florida.
