TWO crew members were killed when a Cologne-bound United Parcel Service 747-400 crashed shortly after take-off at Dubai's Nad al-Sheba military camp near Academic City and Global Village close to the Al-Ain Dubai Highway.
Witnesses said the plane, carrying toys and plastic items, was on fire before hitting the ground. The National newspaper reported a "fireball" erupted from the crash site.
The crash was 30 kilometres from where a Sudanese cargo plane crashed shortly after take-off from Sharjah airport last October, killing six crewmen.
"This incident is very unfortunate and we will do everything we can to find the cause," said UPS airline and international operations manager Bob Lekites in a statement.
