SHREVEPORT Regional Airport's Air Cargo West Facility has signed a 10-year lease with FedEx, with the option of picking up another 20 years through three option periods. Rival UPS has also renewed a five-year lease for the facility.
The air cargo park, located next to the airport, opened last year. It was built to the specifications of FedEx, which is the anchor tenant for the facility. FedEx's operates more than 60 flights in and out of the Shreveport facility each month.
"Based on what we have done with our lease, I think it shows a strong commitment to Shreveport," said FedEx spokesman Jim McCluskey. "Shreveport is as important a city to us as any other city. We have a good strong presence in the community. We have a cooperative relationship with the airport."
FedEx pays about US$36,900 a month for 100,000 square feet of space at the airport's cargo facility. Most of the lease cost is for 26,000 square feet of warehouse and office space. As for UPS, it occupies about 75,000 square feet and pays about $3,100 a month, reported Shreveport Times.
Said UPS spokesman Mike Mangeot: "We've got a long-term lease on our gateway facility at the airport, and our Supply Chain Solutions subsidiary just moved into a facility it owns in town."
