Maersk affiliate to offer truckers chassis in Pacific southwest

Sep 2, 2010 Logistics

DIRECT CHASSIS LINK INC (DCLI), which the Maersk group established in 2009 as a neutral provider of chassis to truckers, said it will extend the coverage of its existing service to California and other points in the south west this autumn.

From October 4, DCLI will offer chassis to drayage companies at marine terminals, container yards and railroad ramps at Pacific Southwest locations in Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego, Oakland and Phoenix.

With the addition of the Pacific south west, more than 60,000 chassis in over 140 locations will be available to truckers at a daily rental rate of US$11, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce. Two thousand drayage companies are participating in the northeast, southeast, Gulf, Pacific northwest, Ohio Valley and Chicago-Midwest regions.

DCLI vice president Andy Chinigo said the change has strengthened operating efficiency and reduced air pollution by cutting down on wasted miles by trucks returning chassis after each trip.
