CHINA Eastern Airlines Corp has announced its first half results with revenues rising 93.38 per cent year on year to CNY33.13 billion (US$4.87 billion) and profit 78.8 per cent to CNY1.76 billion (US$259 million).
Traffic volume was up 61.98 per cent year on year to 5,934 million tonne-kilometres. Revenue grew 86.44 per cent to CNY30.1 billion because of the merger with Shanghai Airlines and the rise of per-unit revenue.
Cargo and mail traffic volume increased 95.08 per cent to 2,122 million tonne-kilometres. The freight transport revenues grew 174.83 per cent to CNY4.2 billion, accounting for 13.96 per cent of the group's transport revenue. This was due to the increase in price and freight volume driven by the strong recovery in the freight market especially the international freight market.
The company said a synergy with Shanghai Airlines, additional business spurred by Shanghai's World Expo and cost control were the main reasons for this record high growth.
