HONG KONG's airport is said to be gaining market share over Singapore's Changi Airport, which has been losing ground to regional rivals as it recovers slowly from last year's economic downturn.
In July, cargo handled at Changi increased 11.8 per cent to 158,000 tonnes year on year. In the first seven months of the year, one million tonnes were handled, up 15.8 per cent year on year.
But tonnage, and year on year growth figures, at Changi have been weaker than at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), its chief rival, reports London's International Freighting Weekly.
Hong Kong saw cargo throughput soar 24.5 per cent year on year to 363,000 tonnes in July. In the first seven months of the year, cargo throughput increased by 33.3 per cent to 2.3 million tonnes.
