BAA ends British airport strike threat with pay increase

Aug 20, 2010 Logistics

BRITISH Airport Authority (BAA) has finally reached an agreement with its trade unions by increasing its wage offer, thus ending a strike threat at six major UK airports.

BAA, after talks at the conciliation service ACAS, said trade unions had agreed to recommend to members BAA's revised offer of an unconditional two per cent on pay and allowances and a guaranteed airport profit bonus for 2010 of a minimum of GBP500 (US$776).

BAA deemed that it was a fair offer for staff since the operating context for the aviation industry remained harsh. All its trade unions, including ACAS, Unite, Prospect and PCS, have accepted the new salary offer.

This move has released alleviated fears among forwarders that British air cargo transport would be badly delayed because of a strike.
