Panalpina opens new facility in Singapore

Aug 19, 2010 Logistics

Logistics giant Panalpina has a new facility that caters to clients in the oil and gas industry, reported the Straits Times.

The three-storey centre cost the Swiss company US$11 million to set up, and employs 60 people.

It contains 1,100 sq m of office space, a 7,000 sq m covered warehouse and 14,000 sq m of open yard - bringing the firm's total warehousing capacity here to more than 30,000 sq m.

The centre offers energy firms a range of services, from supplying offshore containers, bunkering and procurement services, to arranging for seamen's passports, crew handling and liaison with the local authorities for regional clients, including those from Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh and Australia.

While Panalpina's business is located on other parts of the island like Jurong and the Keppel district, it placed the new complex within the Loyang Offshore Supply Base because of the strategic location.

Industry vessels coming to Singapore can only call on a jetty in the Loyang Base vicinity, which is privately operated by Australian company Toll.

Toll is also the site's landlord, and has leased the land on a 10-year deal to Panalpina for its oil and gas centre.
