VR-Track Ltd has signed a contract to renew the railway superstructure on the Tartu-Valga track section in Estonia. The work will be carried out in 2008-2009. The contract has a value of about EUR 5 million and the client is the state-owned Estonian Railways (AS Eesti Raudtee).
The agreement includes renewing the superstructure on 66 kilometres of track and replacing 25 turnouts. The contract also includes work on the track substructure.
The work will start in May 2008, making use of local subcontractors and VR-Track’s track construction machinery.
Renovating the Tartu-Valga track section is the largest railway superstructure project on Estonia’s rail network this year. It is also the most significant contract carried out to date by VR-Track in Estonia.
The track being renovated is the southern section of the rail link between Tallinn and Valga, on the border with Latvia, and is part of the international Rail Baltica development project.
