HONG KONG's No 2 airport ground handler, Asia Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT), handled 61,363 tonnes of cargo in July, an increase of 44 per cent compared with the same month last year.
Within this total, export cargo came to 42,808 tonnes, up 53 per cent while July import cargo volume amounted to 18,154 tonnes, up 27 per cent year on year and transshipment stood at 402 tonnes, down 20 per cent.
Cumulative export tonnage from January to July 2010 was 276,404 tonnes, representing growth of 40 per cent compared to the first seven months of last year. Total import tonnage for this period increased by nine per cent to 113,076 tonnes. Transhipment volume amounted to 2,785 tonnes, down 17 per cent.
"The fast pace of growth is encouraging, but we have seen how unexpected occurrences could impact business," said AAT corporate development general managerNelson Lee.
