Norfolk Southern profit up 59pc, sales rise 31pc to US$2.4 billion

THE Norfolk Southern railway has announced that second quarter net profit increased 59 per cent to US$392 million against the $247 million profit in the second quarter of 2009.


Operating revenue was $2.4 billion, up 31 per cent from the second quarter of 2009, an increase attributed to a 22 per cent jump in demand with intermodal revenue up 23 per cent to $451 million, general merchandise revenue rising 31 per cent to $1.3 billion with coal volumes up 36 per cent to $696 million.
