MACAU export airfreight grew significantly by 59 per cent year on year to 16,366 tonnes in the first half year of 2010 with its main destination of Taiwan accounting for 72 per cent of the total, according to data released by the Macau Statistics and Census Bureau.
Meanwhile, its incoming airfreight surged by 63 per cent to 8,342 tonnes. Taiwan also took the largest share of 87 per cent. However, transit airfreight fell by 49 per cent year on year to 3,193 tonnes.
Also in the first half year of 2010, container throughput totalled 42,330 TEU or 30,239 containers handled, down by one per cent and four per cent respectively year on year. Gross weight of containerised cargo totalled 86,786 tonnes, similar year earlier, with 6,367 tonnes of transshipment goods. Gross weight of containerised cargo by land dropped by 27 per cent to 21,304 tonnes, inclusive 6,865 tonnes of transit goods.
