Eurasia Rail Logistics Joint Venture founded

Apr 28, 2008 Logistics

With the aim of improving freight transport on the corridor from Germany via Russia to Asia, the incorporated company Eurasia Rail Logistics (ZAO ERL) has just been founded in Moscow. ERL is a joint venture between the freight railroad of Deutsche Bahn AG (Railion Deutschland AG), RŽD Russian Railroads, PKP Cargo S.A. (Poland) and the Belarus Railroads.

With its head office in Moscow, the company aims to optimize the legal, operational, technical and commercial conditions of rail freight transport on the pan-European Corridor II (Germany – Poland – Belarus – Russia, with an extension to Asia). This is designed to improve the quality of the offerings, prices and services.

Customers of the railroads involved should be able to count on shorter transit times. Furthermore it is hoped that the different legal standards will be harmonized and operating agreements worked out which will minimize transport times and border stops. An improved networking of the IT systems of the various railroads should also facilitate a comprehensive tracking and tracing system.

Joachim Gerigk has been appointed as CEO of the new company. He was previously Team Leader for the European Production Network -Transport Development with Russia at Railion Deutschland AG.
