Macau's first half export air cargo soars 59 pc

MACAU's outward air cargo volume increased by 59 per cent to 16,366 tonnes in the first half of 2010 compared to the first half of last year, according to the figures from the Special Administrative Region's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).


The main destination for Macau's export cargo was Taiwan, accounting for 72 per cent of the total handled during the period, reports Xinhua.


Inward air cargo volumes rose by 63 per cent to 8,342 tonnes, with cargo from Taiwan dominating with a share of 87 per cent. On the other hand, transit air cargo decreased by 49 per cent to 3,193 tonnes.


First half commercial flight movements at Macao International Airport dropped by seven per cent compared to the previous year to 17,380.


Taiwan, the Mainland China and Thailand were the major routes, respectively accounting for 38 per cent, 27 per cent and eight per cent of the total number of commercial flights, according to the DSEC.
