ASIAN manufacturing is driving air freight increases despite rising rates against cheaper ocean freight and lower than expected capacity, said Kuehne + Nagel vice president Thomas Lehmann.
All commodities are strong from key hubs of Hong Kong, Shanghai and the Indian subcontinent with high-tech products and raw materials leading the rise, he said.
Kuehne + Nagel's half year revenue was up 16 per cent year on year with air freight sector up 31 per cent in all trade lanes but in particular on routes from Asia-Pacific.
High air freight rates Asia has not deterred shippers from seeking air cargo space "into just about all geographical areas - unusually, and unseasonably, in comparison not only with 2009, but with 2008," Mr Lehmann said, reported London's International Freighting Weekly.
