CONTINENTAL Airlines Cargo has withdrawn from the GF-X booking portal after carrying out a detailed business review, said a report in Georgia-based Air Cargo World.
In what it described as "a difficult business decision", the company said it could no longer maintain the internal technical support resources to support the Descartes portal. It had also faced hardware upgrade problems and needed to focus on "other strategic cargo projects".
"One of our strengths is premier customer service. Hence we will continue to offer other convenient choices for automated booking and tracking channels," said Edward O'Meara, managing director of revenue management for Continental Airlines Cargo.
A spokesman for the division told Air Cargo World that Continental had needed to prioritise, as its customers had been using three booking portals - its own in-house Cocargo system and Cargo Portal Services in addition to GF-X. Continental saw a 20 per cent increase in cargo revenue to US$102 million in the first quarter.
