China imported US$1.46 billion worth of luxury goods via ports in the southern province of Guangdong in the first five months of this year, a growth of 110 percent over the same period last year, Xinhua reported.
The arrivals were cigarettes, alcohol, cosmetics, jewellery, large-engine motor vehicles, large-engine motorcycles, golf balls and clubs, luxury watches and yachts.
Buyers in Beijing accounted for $850 million worth, up 130 percent, and those in Guangdong for $390 million dollars, up 29 percent.
