SWISS forwarding giant Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new distribution centre in Sauriesi, near Riga to serve all the company's logistics activities in the Baltic region through strong airport and road connections and proximity to its new head office in Latvia.
In its first construction phase the state-of-the-art facility provides 14,000 square metres of warehousing, including a special part dedicated to cross-docking activities, as well as offices. A further extension of up to 40,000 square metres on the same site will be possible said a company statement.
The facility is equipped with enlarged security standards to store high value goods. Kuehne + Nagel offers its warehouse services to large customers from the high-tech and the FMCG industry.
Latvian country manager Karlis Soika said the new distribution centre based centrally will better serve the increasing demand for integrated contract logistics solutions in the Baltic states. "All our operations in the new warehouse will be based on powerful IT solutions allowing us to secure optimal information flow towards our customers and best performance quality."
