United Airlines DC-Accra flight its first-ever to Africa

UNITED AIRLINES (UAL) has launched its first-ever service to Africa with Saturday's the 10:10pm departure of United 990 from Washington and Accra, the company announced.


The Boeing 767 aircraft, arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra the next day at 12:40pm with US-bound service from Accra took off 11pm, arriving Washington the next day at 6:25am.


Joining United on the inaugural flight was Ghanaian ambassador to the United States Daniel Ohene Agyekum and American Idol Finalist and recording artist Elliott Yamin.


Flights to and from Accra are timed for connections at Washington Dulles Airport to more than 70 cities in North America. As the largest airline in the US capital, United offers nearly 300 daily departures from Washington Dulles.


"With the addition of service to Accra, United now offers non-stop service to points on six continents," said United vice president Jeff Foland.
