Jun 18, 2010 Logistics

GEODIS Wilson, Swiss leaders in freight management, handled one of the largest cargo shipments every flown - two prototype wind turbine blades on behalf of LM Wind Power using the Antonov-225 for delivery at the Skrydstrup Vojens Danish Military Airport.

The shipment of two 42-metre turbine blades from the company's manufacturing plant in Tianjin China was loaded on to the An-225, the largest freighter in the world measuring nearly the length of a football field from nose to tail and wingtip to wingtip and maximum takeoff weight of about 1.32 million pounds.

"Our activities in the wind energy sector are well known in the market, but the move of these prototype blades of LM Wind Power allowed us to conquer a new level of complexity," said Henrik Funk global manager of wind energy projects in a report from Essex-based Heavy Lift & Project Forwarding.
