APL LOGISTICS has opened a 114,000-square foot Container Freight Station (CFS) near Bangladesh's busiest port of Chittagong.
APL Logistics said the station's location and operation is expected to improve transit time for shippers and contain costs. "This is the most efficient, up-to-date facility of its kind in the country," said Siddharth Adya, managing director for APL Logistics in south Asia.
The new facility is six kilometres from the port at Chittagong. It's located near two special economic zones, the Chittagong and Karnaphuli Export Processing Zones.
The freight station replaces two others that APL Logistics shared previously with competing logistics providers. The new station will be used only for APL Logistics' customers.
APL Logistics said the new freight station features: cross-dock and consolidation facilities; 48 receiving bays; trucking capabilities; advanced security features; and value-added services such as bar code scanning.
