Air freight prices out of Shanghai jumped 18.4 percent on average in April from March to their highest point so far in 2010, according to Drewry Shipping Consultants.
The increase over Drewry Air Freight Price Index in March marked the first month-to-month increase since December and left the index close to the peak set in December.
April’s index of 134.4 also was 64 percent higher than the same month a year ago in the midst of a trade and shipping demand downturn.
The Drewry Air Freight Price Index is built on the average all-in rate for exports out of Shanghai to several locations.
Air freight traffic grew more than 25 percent in April, according to the International Air Transportation Association, against a 3.2 percent increase in capacity.
