Hactl cargo volume surges 44.6% in May

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals (Hactl) said its air cargo volume rose 44.6 percent in May from a year earlier, as the global economic recovery boosted cargo traffic, Dow Jones reported.


The company, which handles about 80 percent of air cargo that pass through Hong Kong International Airport, said it handled 257,315 metric tonnes of cargo in May. It handled 1.14 million tonnes of cargo in the five months ended May 31, up 40.1 percent from a year earlier.


In May, Hactl handled 142,052 tonnes of air cargo exports, up 56.7 percent from a year earlier, and the volume of imports rose 31.2 percent to 65,069 tonnes. Transhipment volume rose 33 percent to 50,194 tonnes.
