DHL is setting up a logistics and warehousing facility with an initial investment of US$10 million at the free trade warehousing zone (FTWZ) at Sriperambadur near Chennai, the Economic Times of India reported.
The facility is expected to be ready for business by November of this year.
DHL's site at the zone, spanning a total land area of over 260,000 sq ft, will have warehousing facilities spanning 130,000 sq ft. The facility will provide consolidated operations for distribution management and trading, both into and out of India, with inventories held in India on the accounts of foreign or Indian entities.
DHL will be the first global logistics company to set up a facility within a notified FTWZ in India.
Chief executive officer of DHL Global forwarding, South Asia Pacific, Amadou Diallo said the company decided to create its first logistics hub in India following the successful operation of its facilities in Dubai and Singapore.
