LUFTHANSA has taken delivery of its first Airbus A380. It will be deployed on flights to China, starting from August 25.

Germany's national football team will be among the first to test out the super-sized A380 when they depart from Frankfurt on June 6 bound for Johannesburg and their base during the World Cup. Two days later the mega aircraft will make a guest appearance at Berlin-Schoenefeld on the opening day of the ILA Berlin Air Show.

The A380 will start its regular scheduled operations on the Frankfurt-Tokyo route on June 11. By autumn a total of four A380 are due for delivery to Lufthansa, which will then fly to Johannesburg as third destination.

Ahead of its first flights, Lufthansa Technik's maintenance hangar has been specially constructed for the A380, which has a total of 526 seats spread over two decks.
