DHL takes over Cargus

The two companies will continue working as distinct entities keeping their respective brands and range of services.

German company DHL has acquired company Cargus, operating on the local courier services market, Mediafax informs. The acquisition the value of which has not been disclosed will be completed after the parties involved have received the approval from the Competition Council. ‘The acquisition is part of the DHL strategy for the consolidation of its leadership on the Romanian courier services market. The acquisition will be finalised when we obtain the approval from the Competition Council and when the fiscal auditing procedures associated with such transactions are over’ reads a DHL press release. DHL runs 23 service centres and 25 service points in Romania.


‘We are convinced that the two companies’ combined resources and expertise will safeguard a successful future for DHL and Cargus. We expect DHL and Cargus to take the leadership of the local courier services market’ said Gian Sharp, DHL Romania Managing director.


The two companies will continue acting as distinct entities and will retain their employees, brand names and service portfolio, the DHL communiqué informs. According to the quoted source, Gian Sharp will head the joint management team and Cargus President Augustin Plesea will keep his potion on the company’s Board.


Both companies will expand their services by investing in the operational infrastructure and development of activity, and will develop a common customer interface. ‘We intend to give our customer a convenient and integrated access to local and international courier services, from a single source’ said Augustin Plesea.


DHL International Romania is part of Deutsche Post World Net, the global market leader in international express, overland transport and air freight. It is also the world’s number one in ocean freight and contract logistics.


Cargus is Romania’s first privately-owned courier service provider. In its 17 years in operation, the company had developed a network of over 90 offices and service points and operates a commercial fleet of over 600 units.
