HONG KONG Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has announced that Polet Cargo Airlines and MNG Airlines have appointed Hactl for cargo ground handling at the Hong Kong International Airport, to support their new charter freighter services.

Polet Cargo Airlines, a Russian-based freighter carrier that specialises in the carriage of heavy and unique cargo, launched its inaugural charter services to Hong Kong earlier this month, serving the Frankfurt - Hong Kong - Vienna route.

It marks the first arrival of the new Russian-built aircraft, the wide-body IL-96-400T, in Hong Kong. This development is part of the carrier's strategy to expand its freighter services in the Asia Pacific region, a Hactl statement said.

Maxim Klushin of Polet Cargo Airlines said: "It is an exciting first step for us to run charter flight service to Hong Kong on our new home-grown aircraft. We see plenty of business opportunities in the Asia Pacific region and we are confident that Hactl, the world-class cargo terminal operator in Hong Kong with reliable and quality service, would definitely add value to our business and support our future expansion."

In addition, MNG Airlines, a Turkish-based freighter carrier and capacity provider for airline companies worldwide, last month launched new charter services to Hong Kong, operating an Airbus A300 between Delhi and Hong Kong. Hactl said more charter flights are scheduled for May.

Lilian Chan, general manager for marketing and customer service at Hactl, said: "The smooth handling of all these charters, in particular, the first ever IL-96-400T new aircraft coming to Hong Kong, all reaffirms Hactl's capability and flexibility in meeting our customers' needs."
