EASTERN Canada's Halifax Stanfield International Airport posted a C$3.3 million (US$3.1 million) profit drawn on operating revenues of C$43.9 million in 2009, up from C$41.2 million at year before.
"Although our passenger and air cargo numbers were down overall in 2009, our airport bucked the global trend by more than doubling our international cargo business," said Halifax International Airport Authority CEO Tom Ruth.
There was 3.7 per cent less cargo year on year to 29,910 tonnes and 2009 passenger traffic also fell 4.5 per cent to 3,417,164 passenger, reported the Halifax Chronicle Herald.
Increasing the C$15 per passenger improvement fee (up from C$10), designed to fund capital projects, added an additional $18.2 million to revenues for the year, said the authority. Toronto's airport charges C$25 and the C$15 is average for Canadian airports, said officials.
