Combilift launches two new models

May 12, 2010 Logistics

- Combilift has added two new vehicles - its latest straddle carrier and a forklift heavy-duty truck for use within a container yard and/or warehousing - to what the company describes as its, ‘range of 4-way handling solutions’.

With a 35 tonne capacity and the capability of two-high stacking of standard ISO containers, with an option to be customised to handle non-ISO units, the diesel or LPG powered straddle carrier incorporates common components and many features from its four-wheel stable mates. This includes two-wheel hydrostatic drive and synchronised hydraulic steering.

Unlike conventional straddles, the new Combilift straddle adopts a three-wheel patented design (a four-wheel option is available), which is claimed to provide greater stability, with all three wheels permanently maintaining contact with the ground without the need to add suspension, even on rough and uneven surfaces. Super elastic/solid soft tyres enable operation in harsh weather conditions.

Among other advantages quoted by Combilift are that the machine has a lower ground pressure when fully loaded than reachstackers or container handling forklifts, making it suitable for operations with poor surfaces.

At 25-tonne capacity with a four metre high lift capability, the Combilift 4-way C25,000 model is the largest forklift built by the company to date, with overall dimensions of five metres square and an unladen weight of 32 tonnes. It is powered by a 127kW John Deere 6068 HF engine.

In spite of its size, the truck is highly manoeuvrable and is capable of travelling sideways along gangways between rows of double-stacked containers.
