China Cargo Airlines sets up first external cargo terminal

Apr 22, 2010 Logistics

CHINA Cargo Airlines, the cargo arm of China Eastern Airlines, has set up its first "external cargo terminal", which is in another city than its Shanghai base, in a bid to expand its service network in the Pearl River Delta, Logistics Week reported.

The new facility is situated in Shanghai's neighbouring city Suzhou. The carrier will provide intermodal transportation service between the new terminal and Shanghai.

China Cargo Airlines has bought two world's most advanced double-engine Boeing 777 freighters in February and March and has deployed them onto European routes as cargo traffic grows when Shanghai's World Expo is drawing near.

Besides setting up external cargo terminal at Suzhou, the carrier has also launched intermodal service between Shanghai and Ningbo, Yiwu and Qingdao, bringing up the total of intermodal services provided by Shanghai airports to 31.
