US RAILWAYS have been fighting to preserve the current regulatory framework which provides antitrust exemptions and minimum government intervention in rate setting.
The fight to retain current practices has become more heated after the passage of amendments the Surface Transportation Board Reauthorisation Act by the Senate Commerce Committee.
Jacksonville-based CSX Corp, among the railways fighting the bill, said it is now in talks with the Senate committee on reaching a more favourable settlement, American Shipper reported.
CSX chief executive Michael Ward indicated that changes to the law could have a negative effect on the potential for more job creation.
