LUFTHANSA Cargo has reported a 19.3 per cent year-on-year gain in its first quarter traffic figures, with total volume for the period amounting to 390,000 tonnes.
Highest growth was in the Americas, which reported 27.8 per cent expansion, as well as Asia-Pacific, which witnessed a rise of 21.7 per cent.
Increased loads came despite targeted measures to adjust capacity in response to market demand, which resulted in a two per cent reduction in capacity. This helped raise the carrier's load factor to 71.8 per cent, up from 57.6 per cent.
CEO Carsten Spohr said that the recent figures marked an extension of the growth in 2009.
Lufthansa Cargo ranks among the world's leading freight carriers. During 2009 financial year, the airline transported close to 1.5 million tonnes of freight and mail to clock up over 7.4 billion revenue tonne-kilometres.
