GERMAN logistics giant Dachser said its revenue fell 9.5 per cent in 2009 to US$4.4 billion, despite a one per cent increase volume to 41.8 million consignments.
Revenue from moving consolidated consignments in Europe, which accounts for two-thirds of its business, declined nine per cent, reported American Shipper. "The Dachser Air & Sea Logistics business segment posted a result in line with the general average decline in this market segment and accounted for 17 per cent of the revenue of the Dachser group," said a company statement.
Making no mention of profits, Dachser said first quarter results had stabilised. "Although at the moment we cannot predict sustained general economic recovery with certainty, we see good market opportunities," said Dacher spokesman Bernhard Simon.
