Changi welcomes heavy-lift outsize carrier Transmile Air

Apr 6, 2010 Logistics

TRANSMILE Air has launched a new cargo service between Singapore's Changi Airport and Kuala Lumpur via the East Malaysian towns of Kuching and Labuan.

The new service, which is expected to help Malaysian shippers tap the global export market via Changi's air cargo network, will see flights arrive at 0920 hrs in Singapore every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and head back to Malaysia at 2250 hrs the same day.

Transmile CEO Robert John Hyslop said the service would assist Singapore-based shippers and forwarders in the oil and gas trade, as the carrier was capable of handling outsized loads.

Transmile's services will complement those of its subsidiary K-Mile Air, which commenced Changi cargo operations in February of last year. K-Mile currently operates 20 flights a week to the island nation, which serves as a stop-off point on its Bangkok-Jakarta route.

Cargo throughput at Changi in the first two months of 2010 increased by 18.4 per cent over the same period in 2009, with year-on-year throughput for February alone up 16.2 per cent at 130,578 tonnes.
