China Southern to be first China airline to join SkyTeam Cargo

CHINA Southern Airlines has announced that the carrier will formally join SkyTeam Cargo by November this year, becoming the first Chinese member of the alliance, Xinhua reports.

China Southern has two Boeing 747-400 and two 777-200 freighters and is going to buy another four 777-200s. By 2011, the carrier will have a cargo fleet consisting of eight freighters.

It currently offers all-cargo service from Shanghai Pudong to Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Chicago, and is also planning a new service from Pudong and Guangzhou to Vienna, New York, Dallas as well as to European and other North American destinations. China Southern also has an extensive network of passenger aircraft belly cargo service.

SkyTeam Cargo is a leading air cargo airline alliance the world founded in 2000, partnering seven carriers including Aero Mexico, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air, Alitalia and Czech Airlines, offering 10,000 flights per day to more than 130 countries.
