Mar 18, 2010 Logistics

A NEW international air cargo charter service from South Korean capital Seoul via Yantai, across the Bohai Sea and then on to Qingdao, has started operation, Logistics Week reported.

Being the first air cargo charter service between Yantai and Seoul, the Yangtze River Express service offers one 737 flight per week on Saturday, taking off at 1045 hrs from Seoul, reaching Yantai at 1200 hrs and heading for Qingdao later.

Korea is the bigger trade partner for Yantai. Customs statistics show that the volume of Yantai Airport's trade cargo volume cumulated to 13,053 in 2009, up 12.21 per cent compared to 2008. Trade with Korea took up 70 per cent of these cargo, mostly electronic products, spare parts and garments.

Before the service is launched, cargo from Korea to Yantai were carried in the passenger aircraft belly which often could not provide enough capacity.
