NETHERLANDS-based CEVA Logistics, has signed a EUR6.5 million (US$8.9 million) three-year agreement to manage Samsung's air conditioner supply chain in Italy. CEVA will run the entire operation, including customs clearance in the port of Genoa, storage in Pognano, as well as final distribution to end users across the country.
Samsung reportedly picked CEVA because of the company's ability to offer the greatest operative flexibility, managing 230,000 packages every year, with 50 per cent of the volume to be handled in just four months.
Samsung logistics director Daniele Farinella said this would allow his firm to adapt to the demand fluctuations typical of his business.
CEVA will offer Samsung the ability to monitor the entire operation using a computerised delivery tracking interface and dedicated web portal. A number of value-added services are also slated to be included in the agreement, ranging from, re-labelling and re-packaging, to, re-stocking and quality control.
