AAT February volume up 40pc to 42,145 tonnes at HK airport

HONG KONG's Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT), the No 2 airport ground handler, has announced a 40 per cent year-on-year increase in cargo throughput to 42,145 tonnes in February.

Export cargo came to 27,955 tonnes in February, a growth of 56 per cent against the same month last year. Import cargo came to 13,873 tonnes, up 16 per cent. Transshipment cargo volume was 318 tonnes, up 30 per cent, said an AAT statement.

Cumulative export tonnage from January to February 2010 was 60,288 tonnes year on year, representing 46 per cent growth. Total import tonnage for first two months increased 19 per cent against same period last year to 29,326 tonnes. Transshipment cargo volume since the beginning of the year was 568 tonnes, up 22 per cent against the same period last year.

Said AAT's corporate development general manager Nelson Lee: "Although Chinese New Year is usually a slower month, the throughput was way better than last year, we remain optimistic that we will achieve healthy growth this year."
