Container Stuffers designs equipment to load forest products

Mar 9, 2010 Logistics

CONTAINER Stuffers LLC (CSL) is unveiling two new machines at the Wood Technology Show in Portland, Oregon, March 9-11 designed to load forest products - logs and lumber into standard TEU and FEU boxes.

"You really have to see it in action," said Container Stuffers CEO Troy Williams. "Our equipment can load a 40-foot container in four minutes," compared to an industry average of about 40 minutes, or longer, depending on the type of cargo being loaded. Named the "C-Loader" and the "K-Loader", they will be on display at the Oregon Convention Centre, said a company statement "The C-Loader increases loading output 60 per cent and can load up to 40 containers in one eight-hour shift with one machine and two forklift operators," said Mr Williams.

The C-Loader has been designed to accommodate more than one layer of freight within a container, as it progressively measures and controls the total load by use of a built-in scale weighing system; generates a shipping manifest specific to the individual container; and reduces damage to both the freight and container during the loading and unloading cycle, a statement from Container Stuffers said.

The K-Loader loads logs and can maintain or increase container output, eliminate collateral damage to the container, reduce costs 50 per cent, and transfer a truckload of logs, weighing 55,000 pounds gross, into a container in 10 minutes, said the company.

"One in 10 containers suffers damage caused by inexperienced operators using equipment never designed for this application, or the sheer brute force of shovelling massive logs into the containers," a company statement said.

The K-Loader's log load pocket has also been designed to eliminate damage to the side walls of the container, while damage to the container back wall is avoided through the installation of a programmable load limit switch.
