Philippines NMC Container Lines makes Batangas first call

Mar 5, 2010 Logistics

MANILA's shipping company, NMC Container Lines (NMCCLI) of Magsaysay Transport & Logistics Group, made its maiden call to the port of Batangas, the key port of the CALABARZON (CAvite, LAguna, BAtangas, Rizal, and QueZON) region of the Philippines before the harbour master decided to stop calls until the tsunami alert was called off.

The NMCCLI's vessel the Gen Malvar on route to Cebu and Cagayan De Oro (CDO) received inbound cargo from Cagayan de Oro (CDO) to Batangas and will now replace Manila in its regular route of Manila-CDO-Manila.

In a report from Manila's Bulletin, the general manager of NMCCLI Jay Olivarez said the move to the strategic gateway of Batangas with its state-of-the-art facilities will help its customers based in the CALABARZON region to get their goods to Visayas and Mindanao.

"In addition, our CALABARZON customers get to reduce their costs in trucking and logistics when they bring their cargo for carriage to Batangas Port compared to bringing it all the way to North Harbour in Manila," he added of the company who serves routes in five of the country's major economic ports of Manila, Cebu, CDO, Davao and General Santos.

NMCCLI's areas of operations are all ISO9001:2000 certified, said the report.
