GERMAN logistics firm Dachser plans to manage the marketing activities of its worldwide air freight services on its own, thereby terminating its cooperation agreement with the Future Group, an air freight joint venture of which Dachser has been a member for 12 years.
The split from the Future Group will take effect from April 1. "The cooperation was extremely successful, and since its foundation the Future Group has been considered a trendsetter in the German air freight sector," Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics, was quoted as saying in a report by the UK's Transport Intelligence. "Nevertheless, changing market conditions and our own evolution have made this split a step Dachser has to take."
The decision to go it alone was driven by the growth of Dachser's Air & Sea Logistics business segment, which "made it necessary to create new synergies to enable higher freight capacities to be marketed worldwide," the report said.
"Despite a decline in business due to the economic and financial crisis, the demand for international logistics supply chains is growing," said Mr Reuter. "We are responding to our customers' requirements by optimising and further expanding our network structures."
