French air traffic controllers stage week-long strike

Feb 24, 2010 Logistics

FIVE air traffic controllers have called a five-day strike this week to protest the creation of a single European air traffic control system, provided in a six-country treaty signed in 2008.

The five-day strike, from February 23-27 February, is also to protest government plans to make cuts in staffing this year and next, reports London's International Freighting Weekly.

Unions say the single air traffic control system would dismantle the French civil aviation authority and threaten the jobs of its 12,000 staff, said the report.
