GERMANY's Lufthansa Cargo AG has announced senior management changes, starting with Joerg Eberhart who has been appointed as the new managing director of AeroLogic GmbH, an air cargo carrier that is jointly owned by Lufthansa Cargo and DHL Express.

Mr Eberhart succeeds Thomas Papke, who is moving to a new post in charge of procurement at Lufthansa passenger airlines, with effect from March 15.

Dr Papke has been the managing director of AeroLogic since 2007, where he was responsible for the operations division. During his tenure he played a key part in the establishment and start-up of the air cargo carrier, a Lufthansa Cargo statement said.

Joerg Eberhart is vice president of commercial, marketing and network at Air Dolomiti, Lufthansa's regional airline in Italy. A business management graduate and licensed Airbus captain, he will be taking up his new post at AeroLogic at the earliest possible date.

His responsibilities as AeroLogic's managing director encompass finance, planning, personnel and IT. Mr Eberhart will manage AeroLogic jointly with Ulf Weber, who was appointed managing director of AeroLogic in mid-2009 and is responsible for flight operations, crew training, flight safety, quality, maintenance and ground operations.

AeroLogic has been flying for DHL Express and Lufthansa Cargo on intercontinental routes since June 2009. It employs 120 staff including pilots. The AeroLogic fleet consists of four Boeing 777 freighters, which is expected to be expanded to eight Boeing 777 freighters by the end of 2010. AeroLogic GmbH is based at Schkeuditz near Leipzig, Germany.
