MISSOURI's state capital of Jefferson City has welcomed the Chinese ambassador to the US Zhou Wenzhong following last year's state funding by the Midwest China Hub Commission project for a air cargo hub at Lambert-St Louis International Airport.
The project aimed to revive importing of Midwestern goods back to China is valued at US$40 million and includes the expansion of air cargo facilities at Lambert to open up trade between the two countries.
"We're centrally located in the United States. We're have a unique opportunity to be with the growing, emerging, fast-growing economy of China, to be the leading spot for exporting Missouri goods and opening up trade opportunities both ways," said Governor Jay Nixon, welcoming ambassador Zhou at his mansion in Jefferson City.
Mr Zhou was told St Louis Public Radio: "I will continue to devote myself to this project, and I sincerely hope that this big idea will blossom into greater fruition at an early date."
